As with many sports, competition wasn’t international until the invent of the Olympics in the year 1896. Equestrian events did not appear in the Olympics until 1912 in Stockholm,Sweden. It was in 1906 that Count Clarence von Rosen, who was a well traveled and adept horseman and “Master of the Horse” in service to the King of Sweden, here he saw an Olympic equestrian competition as a well rounded way to share and promote horsemanship to a worldwide audience.
In a proper proposal sent to the International Olympic Committee or (IOC) in 1907. Rosen here explained his theories and formally requested that equestrian events be included in the Olympiads. He in fact wanted the equestrian events to begin in the next Olympics that would be taking place in London,England in the 1908 Olympics. Luckily for the sport and Rosen’s persistence, The IOC agreed these events would be very welcome indeed to the Olympics. Great news was a happening, Equestrian event were forth coming and announcements sent. To the dismay, enthusiasm was not correctly estimated from the Committees standpoint. The IOC only considered around 25 to 30 horses. The actual amount of entrants ended up being 88 horses from eight different global locations, This was a storm upon the IOC. Such an eager response was not anticipated, There was no place to stable and exercise that many horses. More.

| Expert on International Protocol to prep Lexington for Games |
LEXINGTON, KY - Latin culture generally does not discourage standing close while talking. In Chile, you do not serve wine with the left hand. When sitting cross legged while in the company of Pacific Islanders, one should avoid pointing his or her feet toward the center of the room. Asians are not “touchy” people - they generally do not make casual body contact. Arab male society is “touchy” - but Arab wives do not shake hands.
Confused yet?
These are some examples of the culture shock headed Lexington’s way with the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in September.

The University of Kentucky is providing medical services to the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, but its greatest help to the Games might come from basketball.
UK Athletics, which boasts the only unbeaten Division I basketball team in the country, sent a blast e-mail to 22,000 football and basketball ticket holders earlier this month, encouraging them to attend the Games. That letter was signed by men’s basketball coach John Calipari and football coach Joker Phillips. Then they got an even bigger boost when Calipari gave an enthusiastic plug for the Games during his Hoops for Haiti telethon last weekend.
That kind of exposure is invaluable, said Terry Johnson, director of marketing for the World Games Foundation. More.

Twenty-five years ago, when rows of young pin oaks were planted along Man o’ War Boulevard near the entrance to Blue Grass Airport, the idea was that columns of stately trees would someday welcome visitors to Lexington.
But no one took into account a small insect called the horned oak gall wasp.
In a couple of weeks, the trees — most stunted and covered with tumor-like galls — will feel the bite of a chain saw.
The horned oak gall wasp, which most often infests pin oak trees, has ravaged those near the airport.
“We’ve removed several (infested) trees in the past, but once it gets to this level there’s really nothing you can do but cut the trees down and start over,” said Tim Queary, the city’s urban forester.
