Here’s what’s in the works…
The City is working on many legacy projects to live on after the 2010 Games. Notably, plans are well underway for a Legacy Trail that will connect the Kentucky Horse Park to downtown and be pedestrian friendly.
Planning began as soon as the announcement was made that the Kentucky Horse Park would be the host site of the 2010 Games—in December of 2005!
There are a number of initiatives in place to help prepare our city for the 2010 Games. The Lexington Convention and Visitors Bureau offers hospitality training to interested volunteers and front-line hospitality industry professionals through its Bluegrass Tourism Ambassador Program. The Bureau also will be hosting several satellite visitor centers throughout Lexington during the 16-day competition.
The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government has an extensive streetscape, beautification and wayfinding plan in place to enhance the city’s core and make it easier for visitors to get around.
The marquee event for the city of Lexington is Spotlight Lexington, which is a 17-day festival in downtown Lexington. More information on Spotlight Lexington can be found here.
