Welcome to Mt. Sterling in Montgomery County

Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and the Kentucky Bluegrass Region, Mt. Sterling is full of rich history and charm. Home of the oldest festival in Kentucky-“October Court Days” and “Small Town America Weekend”-voted one of the top summer festivals in Kentucky in 2009. Mt.Sterling invites you to tour our award winning historic downtown with unique shopping and dining.

Founded in 1792, some historic buildings, churches and landmarks date back over 200 years. A downtown walking tour begins at the History Museum located next to the Courthouse.

Mt. Sterling is only thirty- nine highway miles from the Kentucky Horse Park on I-64 east at exit 110, but a world away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Visitors flying into the games will appreciate the convenience and affordability of the Mt. Sterling-Montgomery County Airport, Kentucky’s fifth busiest airport. The airport does not charge a landing fee and offers a self serving fueling station, hanger space and a friendly staff. The runway was recently extended to provide more room for our visitors during the Equestrian Games.

Take a tour of the Ruth Hunt Candy Company, the official candy maker of the Kentucky Derby and the 2010 Equestrian Games. Watch as they make their famous pulled cream candy bars “Blue Mondays” or sample their Woodford Reserve bourbon balls.

Take in 18 rounds of golf at the #1 Public Golf Course in Kentucky by Golf Digest, Old Silo Golf Course and Restaurant. Enjoy great live music every Friday night on the patio in the summer and inside by the cozy fireplace in the clubhouse in the winter.

Overnight golf packages available including a $25 food/drink card, 18 holes with cart and accommodations at Ramada is only $89 per person.

The new Gateway Regional Arts Center just opened on Main Street in downtown and offers new art exhibits and performing arts events daily including the “First Friday” gallery exhibit opening reception from 4:30-7pm each first Friday of the month.

Mt. Sterling in Montgomery County also offers lots of fun on the farm at Bramble Ridge Apple Orchard and Two Sisters Pumpkin Patch and Christmas at the Barn.
