Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill

Shaker Village appeals to a variety of people. Preservationists, historians, antique collectors, craft enthusiast, experienced travelers, food lovers, shoppers, boaters and naturalist, and just simple seekers of peace and quiet will all make themselves at home at Shaker Village.
The Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill preserves 30 original 19th century buildings accurately restored and adapted to provide visitors a variety of rewarding experiences.
On a self-guided tour you can view 40 rooms of Shaker furnishings in the Centre Family Dwelling, watch broom makers, joiners, coopers, spinners, weavers, and quilters. Hiking trails take one across the fields or down Shaker Landing Road to the river.
Two craft sales shops feature a wide assortment of handmade items; tightly sewn brooms form the Shaker craft demonstration, accurate Shaker reproductions handcrafted by a Kentucky cabinetmaker, and many other fine Kentucky-made articles.
During the spring, summer, and fall, you can enjoy the cool breezes and the scenic beauty of the Kentucky River on an authentic paddle wheeler. High limestone cliffs that line the banks remain in a primitive state to the delight of naturalist. You ride under High Bridge, the engineering wonder built in 1879.
For lunch, you can dine on Kentucky country fare in the 19th century charm of the Trustees’ Office Inn. Breakfast, a mid-day lunch, and dinner are served at their appropriate times. Trustees’ Office Inn open Monday – Saturday 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m., (859)734-5411, Reservations recommended.
