Will I be able to visit the Kentucky Horse Park grounds without a ticket to a competition during the Games?

A General Admissions tickets will be available for purchase, which will allow access to the Park during the Games, and will include entry into pavilions, exhibitions, demonstrations, and trade show areas.  The only exception is the “Gift from the Desert” exhibition at the International Museum of the Horse, which will require a separate admissions tickets.  [...]

Countdown to WEG 2010. What is WEG?

In my last post, I promised to explain what a World Equestrian Games is. Here goes: In a nutshell, a WEG is the world championships of the eight equestrian sports (or “disciplines”) governed by the International Equestrian Federation (acronym FEI for its French name, the Federation Equestre Internationale). Those eight sports are: eventing, jumping, dressage, reining, vaulting, endurance, driving, and para-equestrian dressage.

History of Equestrian Olympic Games

As with many sports, competition wasn’t international until the invent of the Olympics in the year 1896. Equestrian events did not appear in the Olympics until 1912 in Stockholm,Sweden. It was in 1906 that Count Clarence von Rosen, who was a well traveled and adept horseman and “Master of the Horse” in service to the King of Sweden, here he saw an Olympic equestrian competition as a well rounded way to share and promote horsemanship to a worldwide audience.

Festival to spotlight Kentucky vineyards and wineries

In 2005, the inaugural festival came on the heels of a grape revival in Kentucky, once known for its quality grape and wine production. Sixty Countries Plan to send Teams to Compete at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games

The World Games 2010 Foundation is pleased to announce that 60 National Federations have submitted entries in principle for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.


WEG’s green efforts to benefit from governor’s cocktail fund-raiser

Ted Turner is teaming up with Gov. Steve Beshear and first lady Jane Beshear to help make the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games a little bit greener. On Saturday, they will hold a cocktail reception from 4to 7 p.m. at the Governor’s Mansion in Frankfort with area chefs and wineries to help raise money for “Greening the Games” projects. The suggested contribution is $500. The money will go to efforts to buy permanent recycling bins for the Kentucky Horse Park and to install more native landscaping along Cane Run Creek, which runs through the park.


Festival of the Bluegrass

JUNE 10-13 at the Kentucky Horse Park…The first Festival of the Bluegrass was held in 1974. It is the oldest, family run festival in Kentucky. Bob Cornett came up with the idea, and supported by his wife, Jean, organized the first event.

Fiberglass horses were late to arrive, but Horse Mania will be on time

After weeks of delays, the last 10 fiberglass horses for Horse Mania 2010 were to arrive in Lexington on Wednesday night and organizers said the popular event will go off as scheduled.

About half of the 137 fiberglass horse forms were a month late getting from the fabricator to Lexington and into the hands of the artists who will paint them, said Jim Clark, president and CEO of LexArts

It’s official: All parking for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games will be at a farm next to the Kentucky Horse Park on Ironworks Pike and will cost a minimum of $20 a car, cash only, Games officials said Wednesday.

LexTran lowers shuttle costs to Games

LexTran will charge $2 for a round trip to the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, down from the previously announced $5, officials said Thursday.

The public transit service also will start a Thursday, Friday and Saturday service to the Horse Park by early August, spokesman Jill Barnett said. She said the transit service decided to make the WEG bus the same cost as its regular fares.
